2014 JUROR STATEMENT

"The artists included in this exhibition represent a cross section of contemporary sculpture. From the formal abstraction of Beth Nybeck, to the interwoven narratives of Chris Wubbena and the whimsical constructions of Dan Perry, my intent was to seek works that would best encourage a wide range of interpretations and dialog for this inaugural exhibition. What these artists have in common is a great sensitivity to the integration of form, expression, materials and craft and it was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to select significant works from both early and late career artists for this exhibition."

ABOUT the 2014 JUROR-Tom Stancliffe, originally from the Chicago area, is a sculptor who now lives and maintains a large studio in rural Iowa. Although he works in a wide range of scales, he is best known for his large public sculptures of bronze or stainless steel that find expression in both the historical and contemporary contexts of a given site. He has completed over thirty commissioned works for public art collections nationally. Tom is a Professor of Art at the University of Northern Iowa and has exceptional experience in creating sculptures, jurying exhibitions, and assisting communities in arts development strategies.
